Why do fireflies have to die so soon?
Mature fireflies which emit light have extremely short life spans of two to three weeks and are traditionally regarded as a symbol of impermanence, which resonates with much of classical Japanese tradition (as with cherry blossoms). Fireflies are also symbolic of the human soul (“Hitodama”), which is depicted as a floating, flickering fireball. Heikebotaru (平家蛍, Luciola lateralis), a species of firefly that exist in the Western region of Japan, is so-called because people considered their lights, hovering near rivers and lakes, to be the souls of the Heike family, all of whose members perished in a famous historic naval engagement – the Battle of Dan-no-ura.)
Sometimes I like to produce electronic music tunes. Besides Travel writing, it was once a big hobby of mine. Before recommending the best travel gear, I used to play disco, house, and techno electronic music in gigs and parties in Barcelona during a few years. Fortunately, at some point in my life, I had to balance my priorities, and I changed the vinyl records with the backpack.
One of my biggest influences is Hayao Miyazaki, the founder of Studio Ghibli, one of the best anime studio ever, which created plenty of the best movies in the industry. One of my favourites is Grave of the Fireflies, and one of the epic quotes from that movie is the title of this electronic music tune I once produced: Why do fireflies have to die so soon?. I hope you like it.
By the way, which are your hobbies, apart from Travelling the world?
